Enjoy a spa day for two

What could be more romantic than enjoying a spa day for two, nestled in the beautiful landscape of the Lake District. There are so many great locations to choose from all across the area, many that take full advantage of their surroundings with spa gardens, outside pools and twilight packages.

Unwind and connect with your partner by enjoying a day of relaxing treatments, afternoon tea and a soak in the hot tub in one of England’s most romantic destinations.

Go stargazing

The Lake District is one of the best locations in England for stargazing; did you know it has some of the darkest skies in the country? With such little pollution, it’s the perfect setting to wrap up warm, snuggle up under a blanket and gaze up at the night sky together.

Places like Castlerigg near Keswick have fantastic stargazing opportunities. Castlerigg Hall purposely do not light up their grounds for this reason and for a refundable deposit, you can borrow some binoculars. Other great places to view the stars are The Langdale Valley, Wasdale Head, Grizedale Forest, Derwentwater and Borrowdale Valley. Not visible to approx. 80% of the UK, you’ll likely see the Milky Way and at certain times of the year, the Aurora Borealis.

Visit the Lakes Distillery

A visit to one of the most up and coming attractions in the Lake District makes a great day date for two. The distillery is where some of the finest Whisky, Gin and Vodka is produced and you can book on to daily tours and tasting sessions. For a really special experience, book a table in The Bistro and enjoy a delicious lunch or indulge in afternoon tea.

They also have an onsite shop so you can pick up a bottle of your favourite tipple to take home and enjoy later.

Catch the sunset at Castlerigg Stone Circle

Watching the sunset at Castlerigg Stone Circle is easily one of the most romantic things to do in the lake District. With panoramic views of the rugged landscape and the mountains of High Seat and Helvellyn in the backdrop, this highly atmospheric stone circle won’t fail to stir romantic vibes as you watch the sun set together.

Just remember to wrap up warm as the temperature drops towards the evening, even in summer.

Go kayaking or paddle boarding

This one is a date for the adventurous couples. The Lake District has some of the best paddle boarding and kayaking in England and there are companies all across the area where you can hire equipment for a fun day together. Some companies, such as Keswick Adventures, even offer bespoke trips and added extras like a bottle of bubbly to your experience for a date to truly remember.

Go for a nice meal

From Michelin star restaurants to cosy pubs, the lake District is not short of places to go for a quality meal. And there is no date night more classic than a cosy dinner for two. Most establishments will source their produce locally, so you’ll be enjoying an authentic taste of cumbria.

Another great romantic date idea would be to pick up one of the many treats that the Lake District is famous for such as sticky toffee pudding, Kendal mint cake or Grasmere gingerbread and pack it as part of a picnic.

No matter what romantic activity you choose to do in the Lake District, you’re sure to get lost in the mesmerising landscape surrounding you and have an incredible time.
